1. Identifica qué estudio tienes1. Identify which test you have
A human papillomavirus test and cervical cytology do not look for exactly the same thing. The first identifies high-risk virus types covered by the test; cytology, also called a Pap test, examines cervical cells for changes. Sometimes both are performed together. A viral result and a cell result can therefore provide different information. Their names should not be used interchangeably, and the findings should not be summarized as though they came from one test.Fuentes: Sources: Cervical Cancer Screening
2. Alterado no es una conclusión completa2. Abnormal is not a complete conclusion
An abnormal screening result does not by itself mean cancer, but appropriate follow-up matters. Decisions consider the current result, previous tests, earlier treatments and personal factors. Colposcopy allows the cervix to be examined under magnification; a cervical biopsy removes tissue for examination. Neither is another name for the viral test or the Pap test. An isolated word is not enough to choose the next test, a treatment or a follow-up interval yourself.Fuentes: Sources: HPV and Pap Test Results — National Cancer Institute
3. Haz una carpeta que cuente la historia3. Build a folder that tells the story
Arrange reports by date and keep each complete document, including its conclusion. Beside each one, note the test name exactly as printed, where it was performed and what explanation you received. If there was a biopsy or treatment, add its report at the appropriate point in the timeline. Mark anything you do not remember or still need to obtain. The purpose is not to translate abbreviations or produce a diagnosis. It is to help you and your clinician distinguish what happened first, what changed and which document answers each question.
4. Deja visible lo que sigue pendiente4. Make the outstanding questions visible
Bring a short list: which result is being reviewed, what information is missing and what you need to understand about the proposed plan. After the discussion, write down the agreed next step, who will explain any pending result and how follow-up will be arranged. If different documents contain different instructions, keep both and ask for clarification rather than combining them into your own conclusion. You do not need to post photographs of reports to organize your folder. Share personal clinical information with your care team through the channel you have agreed on.
